KUWAIT CITY, May 12: Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday summoned the ambassador of Iran following what it described as an armed infiltration by elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard into Bubiyan Island and their engagement with Kuwaiti Armed Forces.

The ministry said Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Sulaiman Al-Masha'an handed a formal protest note to Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Toutounji during a meeting held on Tuesday.

Kuwait strongly condemned what it called a “hostile act” and demanded that Iran immediately and unconditionally halt such actions, holding Tehran fully responsible for what Kuwait described as a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a serious breach of international law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

The ministry further stressed that Kuwait reserves its full right to defend itself under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and to take all measures deemed necessary to protect its sovereignty as well as the security of its citizens and residents.
