KUWAIT CITY, July 21: Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan summoned Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Totonchi, protesting over Iran's attack on the Kuwaiti tanker Keifan while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening, which injured several crew members.
According to a Foreign Ministry statement on Tuesday, Al-Mashaan said the blatant attack came amid Iran's continuing aggression against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side.
He stressed that the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests, threatens the security and freedom of international navigation, and breaches international law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
Al-Mashaan renewed Kuwait's demand that Iran immediately cease its unlawful attacks, stressing that Kuwait reserves its right to take the necessary measures and holds Iran fully responsible for the attack and its ongoing aggression against the State of Kuwait.
