AMMAN, Nov 30: The Kuwait men’s volleyball team suffered its second defeat in the ongoing Arab Challenge Cup in Amman, Jordan, falling to the host nation in a thrilling five-set match (20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 9-15).
Kuwait had lost its opening match against Tunisia 0-3 and will now face Palestine today at 3:00 PM in the third round. Meanwhile, Jordan meets Tunisia, and Egypt faces Bahrain. The tournament follows a single round-robin format, with the team accumulating the most points crowned champion.
In club news, Burgan Club has signed Bulgarian professional Kristian Velkov to strengthen its men’s volleyball squad for the remainder of the season. Velkov replaces Macedonian Aleksandar Liyaftov, whose recent performances fell short of expectations.
Burgan Club Volleyball Director Youssef Al-Hamdan praised Velkov’s experience, noting he has trained with national teams in Bulgaria. Al-Hamdan added that the team is preparing for the national league, set to begin on December 11, followed by participation in the West Asia Clubs Championship in February in Kuwait.
