Kuwait stands firm against liquor smuggling

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef has affirmed the ability of the Criminal Security Sector and Kuwait General Administration for Customs (KGAC) to efficiently handle smuggling and trading of alcohol cases, reiterating the zero-tolerance policy in dealing with smugglers and traders of alcoholic drinks, reports Al-Anba daily. Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Al- Nawaf were present during the inventory of the largest seizure of imported liquor in the year 2024 – 13,422 bottles with a market value exceeding KD1 million – at Shuwaikh Port.

They thanked the concerned officers for exerting tremendous efforts in combating the smuggling of narcotic and intoxicating substances. They also stressed the need for everyone to be vigilant and be strict in dealing with smugglers and traders of such prohibited items. This came after the officers received confidential information about an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of liquor in a container loaded with furniture coming from an Asian country.

Accordingly, coordination was made with the Ports Sector to seize the container, such that a joint team was formed between the Drugs Control General Department and KGAC to gather information to verify the tip-off. After searching the container, the officers found a large quantity of imported liquor and initial investigations revealed the involvement of three people who were referred to the concerned authorities, along with the confiscated liquor bottles
