Kuwait slightly improves on traffic congestion

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: The Tom Tom index has released its annual traffic congestion index for 2018, with Kuwait posting a slight improvement of 1 percent on the index, ranking 194 among 403 cities in 56 countries around the world, reports Al- Anba daily.

The index showed that Kuwait is ranked fifth in the Gulf after Abu Dhabi, which ranked 396 globally Jeddah 272, Dubai 202 and Riyadh acquired the 211 ranking. The report is based on surveying drivers’ views on roads in countries around the world and then classifying them according to the time taken by the driver during peak hours.

Drivers are expected to spend 24 percent more time on Kuwait’s roads due to traffic congestion, in parallel to Philadelphia, Amsterdam and Portsmouth.

Globally, the index showed that India’s Mumbai city ranked first this year, with drivers in the Indian city expecting to spend 65 percent of their average extra time stuck in traffic congestion while on the move. In the global rankings, the Colombian capital, Bogota drivers spent 63 percent more time in traffic, Lima in Peru, New Delhi in India, 58 percent, and Moscow, 56 percent, being the world’s most crowded cities.
