KUWAIT CITY, Jul 7: Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has shut down two shops in Al-Ahmadi Governorate after inspectors uncovered thousands of counterfeit products bearing the trademarks of internationally renowned brands during an emergency market inspection campaign.
The ministry said its emergency inspection teams seized 2,059 fake items that were being displayed, sold, and stored inside the two establishments.
The confiscated goods included counterfeit handbags, shoes, watches, accessories, and eyeglasses for both men and women, all carrying the trademarks of well-known international brands.
Following the inspections, officials filed formal violation reports against the businesses and took immediate legal action, resulting in the closure of both shops.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the crackdown forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat commercial fraud, protect consumers, safeguard intellectual property rights, and ensure compliance with Kuwait's commercial laws.
Authorities reiterated that inspection campaigns will continue across markets throughout the country to identify businesses dealing in counterfeit merchandise and to take strict legal action against violators.
