KUWAIT CITY, May 11: The Kuwait Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has carried out a major enforcement operation in coordination with the Kuwait Ministry of Interior's Criminal Investigation Department, shutting down an illegal home-based kitchen and sales operation run from a private residence in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate.
Authorities said the raid was conducted as part of an intensified inspection campaign following complaints, targeting unlicensed food activities and unsafe practices that violate public health regulations.
During inspections, officials found the site operating as an unregistered kitchen preparing and distributing food without the required health licence. The facility was described as being in unhygienic conditions, with food products found to be contaminated with visible mold and deemed unfit for human consumption.
Authorities also uncovered multiple hygiene violations, including unclean equipment, poor sanitation practices, and the presence of flies in food preparation areas. In addition, 16 workers were found handling food without valid health certificates confirming they were free from communicable diseases.
The authority said the operation was being carried out entirely outside the legal framework, which requires food establishments to obtain proper licensing and comply with strict health and safety standards.
Legal procedures were immediately initiated, violation reports were issued, and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution as a serious health offense that cannot be settled administratively.
Officials stressed that operating food businesses from private residences is strictly prohibited and poses a direct threat to consumer health and safety, urging the public to deal only with licensed establishments. They added that inspection campaigns will continue across Kuwait to identify violations and protect consumers.
