MUSCAT, Dec 22 (KUNA): Kuwait’s national shooting team made a strong start at the Arab Pistol and Rifle Shooting Championship, which opened on Sunday in Muscat, Oman, by securing the silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.
Bahrain claimed the gold medal, while Qatar finished third to take the bronze.
Secretary General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations and head of Kuwait’s delegation, Obaid Al-Osaimi, told KUNA that shooters Maryam Arzouqi, Ritaaj Al-Ziyadi, and Fajr Al-Dhabib delivered an impressive performance, finishing second after fierce competition against teams from across the Arab world.
Al-Osaimi said the Kuwaiti women posted a total score of 1845.6 points, narrowly missing out on gold behind Bahrain. He described the result as an encouraging start, adding that it would serve as strong motivation for the team to pursue further achievements in the remaining events.
Kuwait is set to compete in several disciplines during the championship, which runs until December 26, including the 10m air rifle mixed team, 50m rifle three positions (men), 10m air pistol, and 25m pistol events for both men and women. Al-Osaimi expressed optimism that Kuwait’s shooters would add more medals to their tally.
He also noted the championship’s high level of competition, with participation from leading Arab shooters, as well as significant official attendance, including International Shooting Sport Federation President Luciano Rossi and officials from the Arab Shooting Federation.
Al-Osaimi reaffirmed the Kuwaiti Shooting Federation’s commitment to fully supporting national team athletes and ensuring optimal preparation to achieve success at regional, continental, and international competitions.
