KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Assistant Undersecretary for Social Welfare and Development at the Ministry of Social Affairs Iman Al-Enezi confirmed that the selection of ‘substitute mothers ’ is based on certain conditions and criteria. In a statement to Kuwait TV, Al-Enezi pointed out that the ‘substitute mothers’ must be available to care for the children for five consecutive days a week and provide them with all the needs a child could have in a natural family, including attention, care, emotional support and guidance towards proper upbringing and development.

She said the applicants for the project must undergo a psychological evaluation by specialists. “After passing this stage, they should enroll in comprehensive training and rehabilitation programs to learn how to interact with children and understand their psychological and social needs. When children find a mother who provides affection and care, they begin to feel psychologically stable,” she explained.

She disclosed that the project aims to ensure the psychological and social well-being of children and facilitate their smooth integration into society, in addition to providing the educational and developmental guidance and support they need. She stressed that the project will have a positive impact on the children, as they will exhibit psychological stability and fully integrate into society, because the presence of a substitute mother gives the child a sense of security and support in various aspects of his daily, educational and nurturing activities.
