Kuwait Sets New Funeral Hours to Protect Public from Extreme Heat

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 2: The Kuwait Municipality has introduced new funeral and burial timings during the summer months to protect mourners from extreme daytime temperatures, following a fatwa issued by the Ministry of Awqaf permitting nighttime burials.

Under the new regulations, funerals will be held daily at 9:00 a.m. and after the Isha prayer. Burials may also take place after the Maghrib prayer at the request of the deceased's family, subject to coordination with the Municipality's Funeral Affairs Department and completion of the required procedures.

The municipality said the measure is intended to ease the burden on grieving families and funeral attendees during prayers, processions, and burials, while ensuring safer conditions during the hot summer season. Authorities added that adequate lighting will be provided at cemeteries to facilitate evening funeral services.

The circular takes immediate effect, with cemetery administrations instructed to organize operations according to the revised schedule and provide the necessary resources to ensure smooth implementation.
