Kuwait Sets 20–75 Dinar Fines for Pedestrian Crossing Violations

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: The Kuwait General Directorate of Traffic has warned that jaywalking poses a serious risk to pedestrians and road users, as part of the Unified Gulf Traffic Week activities held under the slogan “Cross Safely.”

In a statement, the department stressed that crossing roads from undesignated areas endangers lives and is subject to legal penalties. It explained that pedestrians caught crossing improperly may face a reconciliation fine of 20 Kuwaiti dinars. If the violation is referred to court following refusal of reconciliation, fines may range between 45 and 75 dinars.

The Traffic Department urged the public to avoid distractions such as mobile phone use while crossing roads, comply with traffic signals, ensure vehicles have come to a complete stop, and check both directions before crossing. It also emphasized the importance of using designated pedestrian crossings to enhance safety for all road users.
