Kuwait set for Cairo camp ahead of Arab Volleyball Championship

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait national volleyball assistant coach Zaid Al-Kadhmi said the team is stepping up preparations for the Arab Men's Volleyball Championship with intensive daily training at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex.

The tournament will be held in Jordan from Oct. 5 to 15, with Kuwait aiming to make a strong showing after finishing fourth at the West Asia Championship in Oman in July.

Al-Kadhmi said the current training phase is focused on improving the players' technical and physical fitness, building strength and endurance, and combining physical conditioning with tactical work. The program is being overseen by Argentine head coach Julian Alvarez.

Kuwait will then move to Cairo for a training camp from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, where the team will intensify its tactical preparations and play several friendly matches. The squad will travel directly from Cairo to Jordan for the Arab Championship.

Al-Kadhmi said the current squad includes 25 players, with the final list to be reduced to 14 before departure for Egypt. He noted that the team features a large number of young players who need greater exposure to strong competition to gain experience and develop their skills.

He described giving the youngsters opportunities at major tournaments as an investment in the future, expressing hope that the experience will help build a generation capable of competing for titles in upcoming competitions.
