KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has arrested a kebab meat supplier accused of distributing large quantities of spoiled and adulterated meat to restaurants across the country, in a case raising serious food safety concerns. Inspectors carried out an early morning raid around 4 a.m., seizing nearly 130 kilograms of meat deemed unfit for human consumption.
Authorities said the suspect had been mixing low-quality meat with sheep fat, then grinding the mixture and adding substances to mask the foul odor before supplying it to several well-known restaurants for use in kebabs and traditional bread. Further inspection revealed that spoiled vegetables and mold-affected ingredients were also incorporated into the mixture. Ginger was reportedly added alongside the rotten components in an apparent attempt to conceal the rotten smell.
Officials confirmed that the contaminated meat was confiscated and that legal action has been initiated against the supplier and the establishment involved for violating food safety and public health regulations. The authority emphasized that inspection campaigns will continue nationwide to safeguard consumers, urging both restaurant owners and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected violations.
