Kuwait seeks rebound from South Korea defeat

Kuwait tries to break through South Korean defensive wall.

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 21: Kuwait’s national handball team will aim to bounce back from its defeat to South Korea when it faces Kazakhstan at 9: 00 am today in the third round of Group B at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Kuwait lost 26-23 to South Korea but produced a competitive performance, staying level with their opponents for much of the game before the Koreans pulled away in the closing minutes to secure a three-goal victory.

The Kuwait team began its campaign with a 26-24 win over Iran, but the loss to South Korea has increased the importance of today’s encounter, with the teams closely matched in the group and qualification for the second round still up for grabs.

Coach Aron Kristjansson will look to rectify the mistakes made against South Korea, particularly during the crucial final stages, while demanding greater concentration and efficiency in attack and maintaining defensive discipline throughout the match.

Kuwait will be seeking a victory over Kazakhstan to restore confidence and gain momentum ahead of its final preliminary-round game against Bahrain.
