KUWAIT CITY, Apr 10: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong condemnation of drone attacks targeting vital facilities in Kuwait on the evening of Thursday, April 9, blaming the Islamic Republic of Iran and its affiliated militias and armed groups for the assault.
In a statement, Kuwait described the attacks as “heinous” and a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and airspace, as well as a clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter. The ministry warned that the continuation of such actions undermines recent regional and international efforts, particularly the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, and represents a direct challenge to the global community.
Kuwait called for Iran and its proxies to immediately and unconditionally cease all hostile activities against Kuwait and other countries in the region, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026. The country also reaffirmed its full and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, stressing that it will take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability.
The statement further condemned what it described as Iranian aggression targeting energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in one fatality and several injuries. Kuwait labeled the attack a “blatant criminal assault” and a dangerous escalation at a time when international efforts are focused on de-escalation and restoring regional stability.
Reaffirming its firm stance, Kuwait expressed full solidarity and unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, backing all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security and sovereignty.
Iran Denies Role
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied any involvement in the attacks. In a statement carried by state-run IRNA news agency, the Guard suggested that if the incidents did occur, they may have been orchestrated by “the Zionist enemy or America.”
Despite the denial, analysts note that Iran has previously been accused of using allied militias in the region, particularly in Iraq, to conduct such operations while maintaining plausible deniability.
