KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: Kuwait has been ranked as the safest country in the world in 2023, according to Gallup's Global Safety Report. The report highlights Kuwait’s top position, with the country posting its highest safety score to date. In previous years, Kuwait scored in the 90s on the safety index, specifically in 2022 and 2019. However, the 2023 score was bolstered by 99% of residents stating they felt safe and the country's low rates of assault (4%) and theft (1%).
The report is based on a comprehensive survey conducted by Gallup, which asked nearly 146,000 adults in 140 countries and territories the question, "Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the area where you live?" The global average score for 2023 was 81 out of a possible 100, consistent with scores since 2017. Kuwait achieved the highest score of 98, while Liberia recorded the lowest at 50.
In economically developed countries and regions with strong rule of law, a significant majority of residents report feeling safe walking alone at night. This sentiment was nearly universal in Kuwait (99%), as well as in other nations such as Singapore (94%), Tajikistan (92%), Saudi Arabia (92%), and the United Arab Emirates (90%).
Conversely, the countries where residents are least likely to feel safe walking alone at night are predominantly in sub-Saharan Africa Latin America, and the Caribbean, a trend seen annually. Notably, only Namibia and Malawi were absent from this list in 2022.
