Kuwait Revokes Citizenship of 36 for Holding Dual Nationality

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 22: Kuwait has stripped 36 individuals of their citizenship, according to a decision issued by the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigation and published in a supplement to the official gazette, Kuwait Alyoum.

Decision No. (6/37) of 2026 cites Article 11 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, which states that a Kuwaiti national loses citizenship if they voluntarily acquire a foreign nationality without authorization.

Authorities did not disclose the identities of those affected, but said the measure was taken in line with existing legal provisions governing dual nationality. Kuwait does not generally permit dual citizenship, and enforcement of nationality laws has been stepped up in recent years.

The move reflects continued scrutiny by officials over compliance with citizenship regulations, particularly in cases involving the acquisition of foreign passports.
