TUNIS, Aug 28: The Kuwaiti national junior athletics team returned home yesterday after an impressive showing at the 11th Arab Junior Athletics Championship in Tunisia, where they secured a total of five medals — three gold and two bronze.
The young “future champions” delivered standout performances that signal a bright future for Kuwait’s track and field. Among the highlights was Asian junior champion Yasmin Roui (born 2009), who captured gold in the girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.69 meters.
“This success at the Arab Championship is a promising sign of greater achievements to come, whether at the Asian Games or the Olympics,” she said.
Hayat also commended the Public Authority for Sport, led by Bashar Abdullah, for its continued support, including the approval of training camps to further develop athletes. She extended her appreciation to the parents of the young athletes for their dedication and encouragement in helping the next generation of champions thrive.
The delegation was warmly welcomed at Kuwait International Airport by Fatima Hayat, member of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Board and Chairwoman of the Women’s Sports Committee, along with members of the Kuwait Athletics Federation and the athletes’ families.
Hayat praised the team’s achievements, describing them as the result of close cooperation between the Kuwait Olympic Committee and the Athletics Federation through the Olympic Champion Program. She emphasized that the Olympic Committee, under the leadership of Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser, is committed to supporting Kuwaiti athletes across all disciplines, with a strong focus on nurturing local talent.
