KUWAIT CITY, May 6: The joint committee tasked with studying the return of sports activity in Kuwait, decided on Wednesday during its fifth meeting, chaired by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Tareq Al-Jalahma, to resume local championships for all sport federations.
Minister Al-Jalahma told KUNA that the committee discussed the readiness of sport federations to resume participation in local championships and competitions, including allowing the attendance of fans, in line with the gradual plan for sports activity return.
Al-Jalahma pointed out that adherence to health requirements and emergency protocols, including evacuation plans and organization within sports facilities, represents a fundamental pillar at this stage, stressing that the safety of all elements of the sports system remains a top priority.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait Football Association has decided to resume sports activities for the 2025-2026 season by completing the remaining matches of the second half of the Zain Premier League, following the decision of the Joint Committee for the Resumption of Sports Activities to restart local championships with public attendance.
The association said the remaining four rounds of the Zain Premier League will begin on May 14, in coordination with relevant state ministries, after which the situation will be evaluated in line with state directives.
The Kuwait FA also approved the completion of the Zain First Division League at the beginning of the next season.
Meanwhile, the association will study the possibility of resuming cup competitions, including His Highness the Amir’s Cup and His Highness the Crown Prince’s Cup , after consulting with the concerned authorities. Clubs will be informed once a decision is made.
The association added that national team coach Hélio Sousa and his technical staff requested the league’s resumption before the June international break to help finalize player selections ahead of the Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup finals .
