KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The Kuwaiti Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, has directed a full return to normal operations across government institutions, mandating 100% employee attendance starting Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The decision, issued during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, tasks the Civil Service Bureau with implementing procedures to restore full staffing levels, end reduced working hours, and reinstate evening shifts across ministries and public entities.
In parallel, the Cabinet approved the resumption of in-person classes for secondary school students across all Educational systems beginning on the same date. Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai presented a comprehensive review of the education sector, paving the way for the return to classroom learning.
Strong Stance on Security and International Solidarity
The Cabinet also reviewed a phone call between Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and US Vice President J.D. Vance, during which Kuwait strongly condemned the recent armed attack targeting US President Donald Trump during an event in Washington, D.C.
Kuwait reaffirmed its solidarity with the United States, denouncing all forms of violence and highlighting the strength of bilateral strategic and security ties between the two nations.
Drone Attacks and Military Readiness
On the domestic front, Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ali briefed the Cabinet on heightened regional tensions, including recent Iranian-linked attacks and a drone strike targeting two northern Kuwaiti border posts.
The incident, involving explosive-laden drones launched from Iraq, caused material damage but no casualties. The Cabinet praised the armed forces’ readiness and reviewed outcomes from inspection visits to Air Force facilities assessing combat preparedness.
The government also expressed gratitude to allied nations and international organizations that condemned the attacks, reaffirming their support for Kuwait’s sovereignty and stability.
Kuwait 2040 Vision Moves Forward
In development matters, the Cabinet reviewed the Fourth Structural Plan for Kuwait 2040, presented by Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Housing Abdul Latif Al-Mashari, alongside Kuwait Municipality Director General Manal Al-Asfour.
The ambitious plan outlines strategies spanning environment, economy, sustainability, infrastructure, tourism, and technology. The Cabinet assigned the State General Structural Plan and Urban Policies Committee to oversee its implementation in coordination with relevant agencies.
The latest decisions signal Kuwait’s push to restore normalcy in public sector operations while simultaneously addressing security challenges and advancing long-term national development goals.
