KUWAIT CITY, Dec 8: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Marwa Al-Jaidan has issued a series of administrative decisions, which include lifting the ban on importing all types of fresh, chilled, frozen and processed poultry meat, and all of its derivatives and products, in addition to table eggs from China, Turkiye, Portugal and Bangladesh, as the highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak has ended.
According to these decisions, it is now permitted to import food products derived from cattle covered by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Code on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) from countries subject to the import ban related to the disease. On the other hand, Al-Jaidan prohibited the import of the aforementioned products from the United States of America and Santarem in Portugal, except those heat-treated sufficiently to eliminate the virus that causes the highly pathogenic avian influenza.
