Kuwait Reroutes Imports via Land and Sea as Air Traffic Suspended

KUWAIT CITY, March 22: The General Administration of Customs has activated an emergency plan to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods and essential supplies across the State of Kuwait following the suspension of air traffic amid ongoing regional tensions.

Spokesperson Raed Al-Mathkour said authorities have rerouted air shipments through land ports, transporting goods by trucks from Gulf Cooperation Council countries and neighboring Arab states. Customs procedures continue to be processed through the Air Cargo Customs Department to streamline operations.

He confirmed that goods are steadily flowing through land and seaports, with continuous clearance operations ensuring the availability of essential commodities and maintaining strategic reserves. Customs teams across all ports are operating around the clock under directives from the political leadership, coordinating with various government agencies.

Despite operational risks at seaports and border crossings, particularly in southern areas, customs activities remain ongoing, with temporary evacuations only during imminent threats. Authorities are closely monitoring trade flows and maintaining readiness to ensure smooth movement of goods and passengers.

Between February 28 and March 21, customs cleared approximately 417 tons of medicines, 103,775 tons of foodstuffs, and 24,400 tons of vegetables, underscoring efforts to sustain local markets during the crisis.

The customs authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring the well-being of citizens and residents, while also honoring members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the line of duty. (KUNA)
