NEW YORK, Oct 8: Kuwait reiterated early Thursday that it would not be a party in any international or regional conflict. This came in the Kuwaiti speech delivered by Second Secretary of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Wafiqah Al-Mulla before the third committee of the UN General Assembly tasked with humanitarian, cultural and social affairs. Al-Mulla reaffirmed that Kuwait would also not allow the use of its territory to launch attacks against any state, out of its unwavering commitment to the principles of UN Charter and good-neighborliness. In addition, Kuwait refrains from interfering in the domestic affairs of countries and respects their sovereignty and territorial integrity, Al-Mulla noted.
Enhancing and perserving human rights could not be achieved away from respecting the sovereignty of countries and their territorial integrity, she said. Al-Mulla further highlighted the series of Iran’s attacks against Kuwait since February 28 that included civilian objects, vital facilities and main infrastructure. These attacks jeopardized the lives of citizens and residents and fl agrantly violated the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and airspace, she elaborated. She referred to the UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026, expressing Kuwait’s categorical rejection of Iran’s attempts to justify these assaults, based on the UN Charter provisions, especially Article 51. She affirmed that claiming self-defense cannot justify the targeting of civilian facilities and vital infrastructure. The Kuwaiti official reaffirmed that Iran is internationally responsible for its attacks against Kuwait and their repercussions, as well as all material and moral damages caused since February 28. Concluding her speech, Al-Mulla reiterated Kuwait’s firm commitment to boosting and protecting human rights. (KUNA)
