Kuwait records solid results in shooting and athletics at the Asian Games

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept 27: Kuwait made a promising start in shooting and athletics at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, with the national teams producing encouraging performances across several events.

In shooting, Kuwait’s trap shooters Khaled Al-Mudhaf, Talal Al-Rashidi and Abdulrahman Al-Faihan delivered strong displays in the men’s individual and team competitions. Al-Mudhaf hit 49 of 50 targets, followed by Al-Rashidi with 48 and Al-Faihan with 46.

In the women’s event, Hajar Abdulmalek hit 45 of 50 targets, while Sarah Al-Hawwal and Shahad Al-Hawwal recorded 43 and 42, respectively.

The trap competition resumes Monday with two additional rounds of 50 targets each before concluding on the third day with a 25-target round. Shooters will compete over a total of 125 targets, with the results determining those who advance to the final.

In athletics, Ibrahim Al-Dhafeeri qualified for the 800m final after clocking 1:47.62 in the heats. He produced a strong tactical and physical performance to secure his place in the medal race.

Bader Al-Suwaid will compete in the 1,500m final today after setting a new personal best of 3:45.89 in the heats. Abdulrahman Al-Azmi will also contest the javelin throw final, looking to challenge for a top finish.

In sailing, Amina Shah begins her Asian Games campaign today. Shah previously made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the first Kuwaiti and Gulf female sailor to qualify for the Games.

Kuwait’s national padel team will also begin its campaign today at 3:30 a.m.
