KUWAIT CITY, March 5: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Thursday reiterated Kuwait’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, considering them a blatant violation of their sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter.

This came in a speech delivered by the minister, who headed Kuwait’s delegation to the joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) to discuss developments and repercussions of the situation in the region, held via video conference. He affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to its right to defend itself, based on Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and taking all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty, protect its territory, and ensure the security of its citizens and residents.

He added that the Iranian threat to maritime security extends to global energy security, the stability of the international economy, and the sustainability of supply chains. The minister praised supporting countries that stand in solidarity with Kuwait and the GCC countries regarding the blatant Iranian aggression, stressing that the security of the GCC countries is indivisible and that any infringement on the sovereignty of any member state is a direct infringement on the collective GCC countries’ security. Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi said on Wednesday that foreign ministers of GCC and EU states will convene on Thursday to discuss the repercussions of Iran’s heinous attacks on the region.

The meeting will be held through videoconferencing with the participation of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. Al-Budaiwi added that the GCC seeks to galvanize regional and international condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted civilians, infrastructure facilities, and diplomatic headquarters in the GCC countries. He urged the international community to fulfil its responsibility to stop the war, enhance regional and international stability.(KUNA)
