Kuwait ranks eighth among Arab and Gulf cities in 2024

KUWAIT CITY, May 23: Oxford Economics has released its 2024 classification of the best cities in the world, with Kuwait City ranking eighth among Gulf and Arab countries and 293rd overall. New York City, boasting a population of 20.5 million, secured the top position globally due to its unmatched economic size and stable growth.

The World Cities Index evaluates cities based on five categories: economy (including GDP size, growth, and economic diversity), human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. New York led in the economic category, significantly influencing its overall top ranking.

In the ranking of the best Arab cities for 2024, Abu Dhabi emerged as the leader, placing 54th globally. Following Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman jointly secured the 92nd global position. Riyadh was ranked third among Arab cities and 118th globally, followed by Dammam at 189th and Al Ain at 218th globally.

Jeddah came in sixth place among Arab cities, ranked 257th globally, while Doha was seventh, positioned 262nd globally. Cairo followed in ninth place at 327th globally, Makkah was tenth at 339th globally, and Manama ranked eleventh at 353rd globally. The city of Taif rounded out the list of the top 12 Arab cities, ranking 373rd globally.

London claimed second place in the general index, excelling in the human capital category due to its concentration of top international universities and companies, despite facing challenges such as high housing costs and limited economic diversity.
