KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 6: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, has raided a private residence in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate that was being used as an unlicensed food factory to prepare, trade and sell a variety of food products in violation of Kuwait's food safety and public health regulations.
The operation was carried out following complaints and information received by the authority. Inspectors discovered the residence had been converted into an illegal food production site manufacturing and selling various food items, including sweets and cakes, without the required licenses or health approvals.
Deputy Director General for Inspection and Control Affairs (Acting), Dr. Saud Al-Jalal, said the violations were serious breaches of food safety laws. He warned that offenders could face fines ranging from KD 50,000 to KD 100,000, in addition to prison terms of three to six years, depending on the ruling of the competent judicial authorities.
Food Inspection Supervisor at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Inspection Department, Hanan Abbas, said the inspection campaign resulted in the issuance of 26 violation reports and the destruction of approximately 30 kilograms of food deemed unfit for human consumption.
Authorities also seized adulterated food products and food items of unknown origin that lacked proper identification and labeling. Inspectors recorded multiple violations, including operating a food establishment without a health license, selling adulterated and unfit food products, and failing to comply with health and hygiene requirements.
During the raid, authorities also detained 11 workers who were engaged in food preparation and trading without possessing valid health certificates, in violation of public health regulations.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying inspection campaigns across Kuwait and taking strict legal action against anyone endangering public health by operating illegal food establishments or marketing unsafe food products. Authorities urged the public to report suspected food safety violations through the authority's official communication channels.
