Kuwait prioritizes inclusive healthcare for people with Down syndrome
Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29:  Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi affirmed that the Ministry places special attention on providing comprehensive and integrated healthcare for individuals with Down syndrome, focusing on preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services, while enhancing cooperation with government agencies to ensure the best quality of life for them and their families.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, on the sidelines of an awareness event organized by the Genetic Diseases Center at Ghanima Al-Ghanim Hospital in the Sabah Health District to mark World Down Syndrome Day, Dr. Al-Awadhi highlighted Kuwait’s firm commitment to caring for and supporting individuals with Down syndrome through the continuous development of services and programs tailored to their needs.

He revealed that 4,330 individuals have been registered with the Ministry of Health since 1980, underscoring that World Down Syndrome Day provides an important opportunity to promote societal awareness, foster acceptance and appreciation of human diversity, and strengthen national efforts that support health, social, and educational empowerment for individuals with Down syndrome.

The minister expressed his great pleasure in attending the national humanitarian event, noting that witnessing children and young people with Down syndrome demonstrate their abilities and creativity is a source of pride. He said such expressions reflect both growing social awareness and the quality of integrated services offered to this group in Kuwait.

Dr. Al-Awadhi extended his gratitude to all entities involved in organizing the event, as well as to healthcare professionals and educational institutions for their continued dedication to supporting individuals with Down syndrome. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining collaborative efforts that promote awareness, inclusion, and the well-being of all members of society.
