Not all potatoes raise diabetes risk, study finds.
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 21: Chairman of the Kuwait Diabetes Society Dr. Waleed Al-Dhahi announced that 28,739 individuals in Kuwait have Type One diabetes, indicating the country is among those with the highest rate of this diabetes type in the region. Al-Dhahi announced at a specialized scientific event, under the auspices of the Society, focusing on the latest developments in Type One diabetes treatment, particularly smart insulin pumps. He discussed the Omnipod 5 smart insulin pump, which is among the latest technologies available for treating Type One diabetes patients. He emphasized that rapid advancements in medical technology transformed insulin delivery and blood sugar management, enabling patients to better control their condition. He pointed out that smart pumps provide a more flexible and accurate method of insulin delivery.
“These devices enhance blood sugar control and decrease the frequency of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) episodes. Omnipod 5 connects blood sugar readings to the insulin delivery system, using internal algorithms to adjust insulin doses based on individual patient needs,” he explained. He added that some modern patchstyle pump systems only need to be replaced every three days, significantly alleviating the need for frequent injections. “Traditionally, a Type One diabetes patient may require four to five insulin injections daily. Minimizing needle insertions is beneficial for patients, especially children and young adults who need continuous insulin. Modern technologies help reduce hypoglycemia episodes, limit hyperglycemic spikes, and improve overall diabetes management,” he revealed.
