KUWAIT CITY, Oct 5 : Police in Mina Abdullah arrested an Asian expatriate after discovering 48 bottles of locally produced liquor buried underground in a desert area, in what security sources described as an unusual method of storing alcohol.

The arrest was made as part of ongoing security efforts to combat drugs, alcohol and other contraband, under the supervision of Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Public Security Affairs Major General Hamad Al-Munaifi and Head of the Security Directorates Affairs Sector Brigadier General Abdulaziz Al-Omar. The operation was carried out under the directives of Ahmadi Security Director Brigadier General Omar Al-Kandari and the follow-up of his assistant, Brigadier General Abdullah Sanidih.

According to a security source, a patrol from Mina Abdullah Police Station was conducting routine patrols in a nearby desert area when officers became suspicious of an Asian expatriate who was there without an apparent reason.

When officers approached and questioned him about his presence in the desert, the man reportedly threw away some belongings and fled. The two officers pursued him into the desert and managed to arrest him.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed that he had been burying bottles of locally produced liquor underground and retrieving them when needed to sell to customers. Officers also found a large amount of cash in his possession, which was believed to be proceeds from previous sales.

The suspect then reportedly took the police to the location where the liquor had been buried. Officers found that he had recently buried several more bottles there.

A total of 48 bottles of locally produced liquor were seized.

The suspect was referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation and to complete the necessary legal procedures.
