KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: Kuwait’s Criminal Security Sector has arrested a woman accused of stealing jewellery worth approximately KD 7,000 from a jewellery exhibition, with all the stolen items recovered from her residence, according to a security source.

The arrest was made by the Hawalli Governorate Investigation and Search Department after a Gulf woman renting space for a jewellery brand at the exhibition reported that several pieces had gone missing during the event.

According to the source, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the crowds at the exhibition, pretending to browse the jewellery before seizing opportunities to steal pieces. Surveillance cameras captured the thefts.

Following the complaint, a case was registered and referred to investigators along with the video recordings. Officers used surveillance footage, modern investigative technologies and biometric fingerprinting to identify the suspect and trace the vehicle she was driving.

The woman was subsequently located and arrested. The source said she had no previous criminal record.

When confronted with the evidence, the suspect confessed to the thefts, the source said. A search of her residence led to the recovery of all the missing jewellery, valued at approximately KD 7,000.

The accused was referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

The source noted that surveillance technology and investigative tools helped authorities quickly establish the circumstances of the case, identify the suspect and recover the stolen items.
