KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) on Sunday planted 300 mangrove seedlings along Al-Messilah Beach, near the seaside of Jumeirah Hotel, as part of Kuwait’s coastal environment rehabilitation project.
EPA Director of Public Relations and Media Sheikha Al-Ibrahim told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the initiative, which witnessed active participation from the head of the UN-Habitat mission Dr. Amira Al-Hassan, and the ambassadors of Turkey, Indonesia, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as representatives from the Gulf Oil Company, aims to enhance biodiversity, protect coastlines from erosion, and raise awareness of the role of coastal plants in maintaining ecological balance.
She explained that planting mangroves contributes to environmental rehabilitation, greening efforts, and strengthening environmental awareness among state institutions and society, aligning with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Al-Ibrahim stressed that the initiative reflects the importance of cooperation among government entities, the private sector, and international organizations in achieving Kuwait’s vision for sustainable environmental development.
She also noted that the EPA, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs, recently launched the national campaign “This Is Your Turn” at Al-Mazroui Café on the northwest beach of Sulaibikhat. The campaign promotes cleanliness, environmental protection, and community participation in improving the quality of life.
Participation in this ongoing campaign, she added, supports efforts to enhance environmental awareness and encourage volunteerism to protect Kuwait’s coastal and marine ecosystems.
