KUWAIT CITY, Dec 28: Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajil inaugurated the third edition of the National Industries Pride Festival, held at Souq Al-Mubarakiya and organised in cooperation with the Voluntary Work Center. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Eng. Abdul Latif Al-Mashari, along with several officials and participants.

In remarks delivered on the occasion, Al-Ajil stressed that Kuwait places strategic importance on the national industrial sector, viewing it as a key pillar for economic diversification and for increasing the added value of the national economy. He noted that supporting local industries aligns with the country’s broader development objectives and contributes to building a more resilient and sustainable economic base.

The minister explained that the government is working to create a supportive and stimulating environment that enables local industries to grow and compete, both locally and regionally. He said the National Industries Pride Festival reflects this approach by linking national products with Kuwait’s cultural identity and heritage, while supporting local crafts and industries in one of the country’s most prominent historical landmarks.

Al-Ajil added that, in line with the state’s development plan, efforts are focused on increasing the contribution of the industrial sector to national income, expanding the production base, and promoting value-added industries. He emphasized that these measures will help create high-quality job opportunities for citizens and enhance the long-term sustainability of the national economy.

He also praised the cooperation with the Voluntary Work Center, describing it as a model of effective community partnership that supports national products, empowers entrepreneurs, and promotes a culture of local production. Al-Ajil reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing support for initiatives that strengthen confidence in the Kuwait industry and open new horizons for growth and development.

For his part, Eng. Abdul Latif Al-Mashari said that procedures are moving forward to relocate the fish market. He explained that decisions have already been taken and suitable locations identified, noting that the matter is currently under review by the relevant authorities. He affirmed the government’s readiness to provide full support to ensure the process is completed smoothly.

When asked about the timeline for the redistribution of housing units, Al-Mashari responded that this would take place “God willing,” without specifying a date.

Al-Mashari further noted that the Kuwait Municipality has a clear mechanism in place for organising Souq Al-Mubarakiya, with several entities, headed by Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad, overseeing the regulation of such markets. He said the municipality’s role is primarily organisational, adding that Souq Al-Mubarakiya has long been a venue for major national events.

He expressed his pleasure at seeing Kuwaiti industries and young entrepreneurs participating in the exhibition, noting that the festival continues to grow year after year. Al-Mashari concluded by reaffirming Kuwait Municipality’s commitment to supporting and facilitating initiatives that promote national industry and youth participation.
