KUWAIT, July 24: Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that 958 prisoners will be released immediately, in line with the rules and regulations applied in correctional institutions, while the penalty and financial fine will be reduced for the rest, according to the Amiri decree on pardoning 2,370 inmates.

MoIs General Directorate of Security Relations and Media indicated in a press release on Friday that the Amiri decree No. 87/2020 was issued regarding amnesty for shortening the rest of the sentence or decreasing the fine imposed on 2,370 inmates.

In the statement, the Cabinet began implementing the decree to release those who had been included in the Amiri pardon after the public prosecution reviewed the statements, ensuring that the exempted ones met the conditions specified, in line with the ministry.

All those released have spent their sentences in correctional institutions with good conduct and behavior, aiming to give them the opportunity to return to society, it pointed out. (KUNA)
