KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, inaugurated the Play Therapy Center on Monday, aimed at providing specialized psychological and behavioral services for children.
The center, affiliated with the Psychological and Social Guidance Department at the Awareness and Guidance Center, was established in cooperation with the Abdullah Al-Nouri Charitable Society. It is designed to offer therapeutic care focusing on the mental health and emotional well-being of children.
In a statement following the opening ceremony, Minister Al-Huwailah said the center reflects the Ministry’s commitment to applying the latest scientific methods in psychological care. She highlighted that play therapy serves as a natural means for children to express feelings and psychological traumas they may struggle to articulate verbally.
“The center provides a safe environment where children can freely express themselves without fear of judgment, helping them release feelings of anger, fear, or sadness in a healthy way,” Al-Huwailah said. She added that specialists employ tools such as drawing, storytelling, and role-playing to support children in coping with their challenges.
The minister explained that the center’s approach focuses on safe, age-appropriate psychological interventions, working to modify maladaptive behaviors, promote mental health and emotional balance, and enhance social and emotional skills among children.
Al-Huwailah emphasized that the Play Therapy Center represents a key addition to the Ministry’s social and psychological services and encouraged families to utilize these specialized resources to support their children’s psychological and behavioral development.
