KUWAIT CITY, Oct 26: Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, and Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, inaugurated the newly rehabilitated 10th ward at the Addiction Treatment Center on Saturday. The expansion, funded by a generous donation from Kuwait Finance House (KFH), aims to enhance the center’s capacity to support those battling addiction.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by KFH Chairman Hamad Al-Marzouq and KFH Group CEO Khaled Al-Shamlan. Following a tour of the facility with the ministers and KFH representatives, Sheikh Fahad emphasized that under the guidance of Kuwait's political leadership, the Ministry of Interior continues to collaborate with various state institutions and relevant authorities. Their goal is to foster a culture of prevention, increase community awareness, and expand addiction treatment and rehabilitation programs.
“Sheikh Fahad praised the humanitarian work of the Addiction Treatment Center, commending its role in providing high-quality services and aiding recovering individuals in reintegrating into society. He emphasized that while the Ministry of Interior continues its strong stance against drugs, it remains committed to offering a helping hand to citizens grappling with addiction, reinforcing that rehabilitation is a shared societal responsibility.”
In his remarks, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi highlighted the new wing’s substantial expansion, which covers approximately 900 square meters and features 11 rooms with a total capacity of 22 beds. The space also includes two isolation rooms, one observation room, lounges, a kitchen, dining areas, and dedicated operational service rooms. This expansion is part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing support for the Addiction Treatment Center, which has been a key resource since its founding in 2005 with a contribution from KFH.
“Dr. Al-Awadhi noted that the center provides a holistic treatment environment encompassing medical, social, psychological, and recreational therapies, aiming to help individuals overcome addiction and return to productive lives. The expansion of the 10th ward is a direct continuation of these efforts, furthering the center's mission to provide comprehensive, advanced treatment programs for those in need.”
KFH Chairman Hamad Al-Marzouq expressed the bank’s pride in supporting the project, emphasizing that KFH’s involvement is a testament to its commitment to national and social responsibility. "KFH’s contribution to the Addiction Treatment Center reflects our dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance social and family stability,” he stated.
At the conclusion of the event, both Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Dr. Al-Awadhi extended their gratitude to KFH for its pioneering national role. They emphasized that the successful collaboration between the public and private sectors is critical in driving Kuwait’s vision for sustainable development and combating addiction.
