Festival platform for embracing young filmmakers in Kuwait and the Arab world

KUWAIT CITY, March 22, (KUNA): The Artists and Media Syndicate in Kuwait announced Sunday, the start of receiving participants in the New Kuwait Film Festival, which will start between May 25 to 27, considering it an incubator for youth creativity. The head of the Kuwaiti Artists and Media Syndicate, Dr Nabil Al- Failakawi, said in a press statement that the last date for receiving films participating in the festival competition will be on May 10, explaining that the festival’s presentations and activities will be remotely online with regards to the precautionary measures taken by the State of Kuwait and the world to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. Al-Failakawi added that the Kuwait New Cinema Festival represents one of the fruits of the Artists and Media Syndicate in Kuwait, which includes an elite group of Kuwaiti and Arab specialized cinema and media cadres.

He mentioned that the festival also represents an additional platform for embracing young filmmakers in Kuwait and the Arab world to launch towards a creative world that enriches the seventh art industry in Kuwait and the Arab world and develops the vocabulary of dialogue and new Arab cinematic cooperation. He indicated that the festival is the first of the demonstrations launched by the union, as a number of festivals and artistic and media initiatives will be launched in the coming period that consolidate the role of the union as a starting point for its creative cadres to fly away into spaces of innovation and distinction.

For his part, the head of the festival, head of the cinema sector in the Syndicate, artist Abdulaziz Al-Sayegh, said that the official competitions for the Kuwait New Cinema Festival include the short fictional films competition, the short documentary films competition for Kuwaiti filmmakers, and a special competition for short fictional Arab films. Al-Sayegh emphasized that the festival seeks to add another platform to the group of film festivals held in Kuwait and the Arab world, with an emphasis on the role of youth of both genders.
