Kuwait names 27-player squad for Gulf Cup 27

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 7: Kuwait head coach Hélio Sousa has selected 27 players for the Blues' campaign at the 27th Gulf Cup, scheduled for September 23 to October 6 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The squad consists of Khaled Al-Rashidi, Saud Al-Houshan, Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, Rakan Al-Saeed, Fahad Al-Hajeri, Khaled Sabah, Youssef Al-Haqan, Abdulaziz Naji, Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, Rashed Al-Dosari, Muath Al-Dhafiri, Mohsen Falah, Reda Hani, Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, Khaled Al-Morshed, Jassem Al-Matar, Athbi Shehab, Abdullah Al-Qurzaei, Nasser Faleh, Mehdi Dashti, Eid Al-Rashidi, Youssef Majed, Mohammed Daham, Mubarak Al-Feneini, Abdullah Al-Awadhi, Shabib Al-Khaldi and Youssef Nasser.

The Blues began preparations with a training session at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium and will hold another session there today.

The team will travel to Doha on Wednesday for a short training camp before heading to Jeddah next Monday. The Saudi camp will run until the tournament begins and will feature a friendly against Yemen on September 18.

Kuwait has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Saudi Arabia, Oman and Iraq. It will open its campaign against Saudi Arabia on September 23, before facing Iraq on September 26 and Oman on September 29.

Group B features Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, and Yemen.

Players from Kuwait Club will miss the team’s training sessions and Doha camp because of their club’s AFC Champions League Two fixture against UAE side Al-Wahda on September 16. They will join the national team in Jeddah.
