KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7: In a new security accomplishment added to the ongoing successes of Kuwait’s Criminal Security Sector, the Cybercrime Department has arrested an individual involved in promoting and participating in illegal online gambling activities through the social media platform Snapchat.

According to the department, the arrest followed a period of targeted monitoring and continuous surveillance of a suspicious Snapchat account. The account owner had been promoting external gambling websites and collecting money from followers through methods that violate Kuwaiti law.

Investigations revealed that the suspect used Snapchat to create the illusion of lucrative financial gains, encouraging followers to transfer money through banking applications. After receiving the funds, he would immediately block them. The suspect also visited gambling halls and recorded supposed winnings to fabricate evidence of quick profits, thereby enticing followers into joining illegal online gambling schemes.

Through coordinated efforts and advanced technical tools, investigators successfully identified the previously unknown individual by linking data from his account with additional location-based clues. After obtaining the required legal authorization, authorities apprehended the suspect, who later confessed to engaging in prohibited activities on the platform.

He has been referred to the Public Prosecution for Media, Information, and Publishing Affairs for the necessary legal action.

The Cybercrime Department reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and taking action against anyone who uses social media platforms to engage in illegal activities or activities that threaten society and public security.
