KUWAIT CITY, May 7: Kuwait Municipality has begun demolishing 42 dilapidated buildings in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, saying the structures pose a danger to residents and the public.
The municipality announced on Thursday that demolition work had started after the issuance of Demolition Order No. 616/2026 , approved by Municipality Director General Manal Al-Asfour .

Speaking on the sidelines of the demolition work, Saeed Al-Azmi , Director of the Engineering Audit and Follow-up Department at the municipality’s Farwaniya Governorate branch, said municipal teams had implemented part of the order during the day.

Al-Azmi said all required safety and legal procedures were completed before demolition began. These included:

  • Evacuating the buildings
  • Disconnecting electricity supplies
  • Fencing off the sites
  • Protecting pedestrians
  • Preventing vehicles from parking near the targeted buildings

He said the municipality will continue demolishing the remaining unsafe buildings after completing the required procedures, including issuing violation reports and placing evacuation notices.

The 42 buildings are located across six blocks in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh: Blocks 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 and 13 .

Authorities said the demolition campaign is part of efforts to address unsafe housing conditions and reduce risks posed by abandoned or structurally unstable buildings in the area.
