Kuwait Moves to Strengthen UNESCO Heritage Bid, Focus on Kuwait Towers and Water Towers

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 13: The Ministry of Education announced that His Excellency the Minister of Education, Mr. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai, has held discussions with relevant authorities aimed at enhancing the inclusion of Kuwaiti cultural and historical sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The discussions focused on advancing the registration file for the Kuwait Towers and the Water Towers as part of Kuwait’s official heritage nomination portfolio. Officials also reviewed broader efforts to strengthen Kuwait’s cultural presence in international forums and highlight its civilizational and architectural heritage.

According to the statement, the meeting examined existing challenges in the nomination process and explored practical solutions to address obstacles hindering the inclusion of Kuwaiti sites on the World Heritage List. Emphasis was placed on aligning national efforts with international standards required by UNESCO.

Authorities also reviewed mechanisms for preparing technical and documentary files to expedite registration procedures. The Minister directed the formation of a joint committee involving relevant government bodies to oversee and coordinate the completion of all inclusion requirements.

The statement further highlighted the importance of unified institutional work among government agencies to preserve Kuwait’s heritage and ensure its protection for future generations, reinforcing the country’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural identity.
