Kuwait's Nazaha takes action against alleged fraud in cooperative society.
KUWAIT CITY, Apr 4: The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued a new decision aimed at supporting additional costs for importing essential goods to ensure a continuous supply and stabilize prices in the local market.
The support scheme covers key basic commodities, including bottled water, canned goods, rice, flour, lentils, vegetable oils, sugar, and whole frozen chicken. The move comes amid rising shipping and supply chain costs affecting imports into the country.
To qualify, companies must hold a valid commercial license and demonstrate that supply chain disruptions have directly increased product or transportation costs. Importers are also required to submit a formal declaration committing not to raise local selling prices while benefiting from the support until the imported stock is fully sold.
Authorities said the initiative is designed to maintain a steady flow of essential goods and protect consumers from price fluctuations. The decision applies to eligible shipments made on or after 10 March 2026, according to the Government Communication Center.
