Kuwait Moves to Enhance Human Rights Protections With New Legal Reforms

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 27: Kuwait has issued legislative amendments aimed at strengthening the country’s national human rights framework and aligning it with international standards, including the Paris Principles governing national human rights institutions.

The amendments include changes to certain provisions of the National Human Rights Bureau Law, as well as the issuance of the National Human Rights Institution Law, which establishes a revised legal framework for the body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights.

Under the new legislation, the National Human Rights Bureau will be renamed the National Human Rights Institution, with measures introduced to enhance its independence and improve the effectiveness of its operations.

The amendments also include restructuring the composition of the institution’s board of directors and updating regulations governing its functions and responsibilities.

The move reflects Kuwait’s efforts to develop its national human rights system, strengthen protections for rights and freedoms, and ensure greater compliance with international human rights standards.
