KUWAIT CITY, Apr 21: Kuwait and the wider Gulf artistic community are in mourning following the death of renowned actress Hayat Al-Fahad, who passed away at the age of 78 after a prolonged health struggle that marked the final chapter of a storied career spanning decades.
Widely known to audiences as “Umm Suzan,” Al-Fahad was a towering figure in Kuwaiti and Gulf drama, leaving an enduring legacy across television, theater, and cultural life. Her performances, defined by emotional depth and authenticity, earned her a permanent place in the hearts of viewers across generations.
Her health battle dates back to the summer of 2015, when she underwent a catheterization procedure that led to severe complications. Within just two weeks, she suffered two consecutive strokes, resulting in a complete loss of movement and consciousness. She was placed on a ventilator in intensive care before being transferred to the United Kingdom for advanced treatment, where her condition remained critical.
In recent months, Al-Fahad returned to Kuwait following an overseas treatment trip that failed to bring significant improvement. She continued her care under strict medical supervision, with visits restricted as her condition stabilized briefly.
However, on Sunday morning (April 19), she suffered a severe relapse that required her immediate transfer back to intensive care. Despite intensive efforts, she succumbed shortly thereafter.
Her passing marks the end of an era in Gulf drama, with tributes expected to pour in from across the region, honoring a career that helped shape the cultural identity of Kuwait’s entertainment industry.
