Kuwait Ministry of Communications: KD 98.5 Million Debt Challenge

‘Recover funds as soon as possible’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6: According to informed sources from the Ministry of Communications, the debts owed to the ministry amounted to KD 98.5 million as of the current fiscal year. Some of them are dues for telegraph, telephone, and telex services, others are distributed between cable segments and amounts for employees.

The sources warned against failure to collect these debts, considering that they are public funds that must be recovered as soon as possible by establishing a comprehensive supervisory system to address the reasons leading to the continued inflation of the debt, and finding an appropriate mechanism to follow up on the aforementioned dues. In another development, the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Communications Affairs Fahad Al-Shoula issued a decision to assign the Assistant Undersecretary for the Subscriber Affairs Sector Eng. Manae Al-Ajmi to carry out the duties of the Acting Undersecretary Ahmad Al-Mijren as of Sunday, in addition to his work, from November 5 to 9 until the latter returns from an official mission. Regarding the referral of the Acting Undersecretary to the prosecution, the ministry confirmed that the news reports are completely false and that the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Communications Affairs Fahad Al-Shoula did not issue any decision to refer the acting undersecretary or any official from the ministry to prosecution during the past week.
