Kuwait marks new medical progress with scarless robotic thyroidectomy
A national medical team performs breakthrough robotic thyroidectomy through the mouth with no visible incisions.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 29: Kuwait’s Ministry of Health (MoH) announced Thursday that a medical team at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital has achieved a groundbreaking advancement by performing robotic thyroidectomy procedures through the mouth without any external incisions, marking a major milestone in the country’s surgical capabilities.

In a press statement, the ministry said the endocrine tumor surgery team, led by Dr. Salman Al-Safran, successfully carried out the transoral robotic thyroidectomy technique, one of the latest globally adopted methods in thyroid surgery. The achievement places Kuwait firmly on the international surgical innovation map.

The MoH explained that the technique represents a major leap from traditional thyroidectomy, which requires an incision in the neck. The new method leaves no visible scarring, reduces pain, shortens recovery time, and enhances overall treatment quality and healthcare outcomes.

The ministry noted that this success highlights the rapid expansion of robotic surgical services both within the MoH and at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, reflecting Kuwait’s ability to keep pace with global medical advancements.

It added that the breakthrough opens the door to further development of advanced robotic procedures in head and neck surgery, strengthening Kuwait’s position in modern surgical medicine and supporting the nation’s vision of building an innovative, high-performing healthcare system.
