KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, announced that the ministry’s inspection teams recorded 857 violations during intensive inspection campaigns carried out across various commercial activities nationwide between December 1 and 31, as part of the ministry’s efforts to regulate the market, ensure compliance with applicable laws, and protect consumer rights.
In a press statement, Al-Ansari explained that price-related violations topped the list of violations. These included 166 violations for failing to clearly display prices, 94 violations for not using the Arabic language in commercial data and invoices, 34 violations for failing to provide information about goods and their country of origin, and 29 violations related to missing basic data in invoices and commercial contracts.
The inspection campaigns also resulted in the issuance of 57 citations for failing to clearly display exchange and return policies, 26 citations related to commercial fraud, 19 for not displaying the warranty period for new or refurbished spare parts, and 5 for failing to comply with the warranty period for maintenance or repair services in the automotive sector.
In addition, eight complaints were registered regarding non-compliance with agreed sales terms. The inspection teams also recorded 14 violations for conducting discounts or special offers without a license, along with other violations, including exceeding the permitted duration of licensed offers, failing to remove promotional advertisements after their expiration, and not displaying price tags on items included in promotional campaigns.
Regarding food products, Al-Ansari reported 18 violations for failing to indicate the country of origin of fruits and vegetables, 10 violations for noncompliance with regulations governing the retail sale of fruits and vegetables, 17 violations related to the regulation of energy drink distribution, and six violations for selling cigarettes to individuals under the age of 21. Stressing that inspection campaigns are ongoing around the clock, Al-Ansari urged business owners to adhere to laws and regulations. He emphasized that the ministry will not hesitate to take legal action against violators.
