Kuwait Loses to Japan In Handball Thriller

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21:  Kuwait men’s handball team faced a tough challenge as they narrowly lost to the Japanese team with a score of 30-32 in their second match of the Asian qualifiers for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris 2024.

Looking ahead, on Sunday, the Kuwaiti national team is set to go head-to-head with their Bahraini counterparts, and this will be a crucial match for them. Following that, they have one final match scheduled against Kazakhstan next Tuesday in the second group competitions of the qualifiers hosted in Qatar.

These qualifiers feature the participation of 11 teams and will continue until the upcoming Saturday. The teams have been divided into two groups. The first group comprises Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, India, and China, while the second group includes Kuwait, Bahrain, Iran, Japan, and Kazakhstan.

The top two finishers from each group will secure their spots in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the first-placed team from the first group will face the second-placed team from the second group, and vice versa. The winners of these semi-final matches will earn their tickets to the finals, which are scheduled for the 28th of this month, determining who qualifies for the Summer Olympics.

In their initial qualifying match, the Kuwaiti national team gave a tough fight but narrowly fell to the Iranian team with a score of 28-29.
