Kuwait launches 'Volunteer Tourist Guidance' service via Sahel app
Ministry of Information launches tourism volunteer scheme to boost national image.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29:  In a creative step to energize Kuwait’s tourism sector and engage its youth, the Ministry of Information on Monday officially launched the “Voluntary Tourist Guidance” service through the government’s digital platform, Sahel. The initiative enables citizens to register as volunteer tour guides and play an active role in promoting Kuwait’s cultural and historical identity to visitors.

The move, directed by Minister of Information, Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, is part of a broader national strategy to enhance Kuwait’s global image, enrich tourist experiences, and reflect the country’s longstanding values of hospitality. It is supported by the highest levels of leadership, including His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The Ministry confirmed in a press release that the new service represents a pioneering effort to involve Kuwaiti youth in the tourism ecosystem by offering cultural guidance, participating in public events, and welcoming guests in collaboration with relevant authorities.

In partnership with Kuwait’s Volunteer Work Center, the program aims to create a comprehensive national database of trained volunteer guides. These individuals will be integrated into tourism-related activities, including events, tours, and official receptions, ensuring organized and impactful participation.

The application process has been made accessible through Sahel, where interested candidates can submit their CVs. Upon receipt, applicants will undergo interviews and assessments designed to gauge their communication abilities, cultural knowledge, and their enthusiasm for volunteerism.

Successful applicants will then be enrolled in a specialized training program. The curriculum focuses on both personal and professional development, covering topics such as public speaking, tourism interpretation, guiding responsibilities, and conducting practical field tours at prominent tourist sites.

According to the Ministry, this initiative is not only about tourism development—it’s a national effort to qualify young Kuwaitis as cultural ambassadors who can authentically represent their country and contribute meaningfully to tourism events and experiences.
