KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Kuwait Society for Earth Sciences on Tuesday launched a volunteer geological field trip program as part of the "Kuwait Geopark" project, under the slogan “Kuwait: A Sustainable Geological and Cultural Heritage.”
The initiative aims to promote scientific and environmental awareness while fostering a culture of specialized, knowledge-based volunteering, the Society said.
Dr. Mubarak Al-Hajri, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the program provides a national platform open to members and volunteers, offering hands-on learning about Kuwait’s rich geological and cultural heritage.
He explained that the trips include specialized field tours led by trained guides who present simplified scientific content, highlighting the country’s unique geological features and the integrated relationship between land, humanity, and civilization.
Al-Hajri called on accredited volunteer teams to actively participate, noting that the program aligns with the UN’s designation of 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers. He said the initiative aims to maximize the value of volunteering, linking it to environmental sustainability, geotourism, educational tourism, and the protection of Kuwait’s natural and cultural heritage.
The geological excursions form part of the Society’s operational plan and the National Program for Volunteering and Sustainability, contributing to community awareness, enhancing volunteer work quality, and reinforcing Kuwait’s position as a regional and international model for knowledge-based environmental volunteering.
